40 under 40: No. 40 – Jad El Chamaa

Jad El Chamaa, senior art director, Impact BBDO

Ever since Jad Chamaa entered the world of graphic design and communications at the Lebanese American University, he was passionate about challenging the norm and breaking the mold. He started off as an art director at FP7 Beirut where he spent close to five years before moving to Impact BBDO Dubai, where he’s currently part of the Etisalat team.

Over the years, his clients have included Byblos Bank, Master Chips, McDonald’s Lebanon and Jordan, Ford and Unilever, and he has won awards across regional and global shows, such as the MENA Effie Awards, Pikasso, Dubai Lynx, Warc, and Midas (New York Film Festival).

What’s the best advice you have received in your career?

Stay humble, you might win all the metals in the world and still have to work on a sh**ty brochure the next day.

What’s the best advice you have given in your career?

Advertising will not save the world, take a break before you burnout.

What’s the most rewarding thing about your job?

Finding potential in an underestimated brief and watch it come to life.

What’s the most frustrating thing about your job?

When clients forget why they pay huge sums for our expertise and decide to play creative.

If not this, what would you be doing?

Probably run a lowkey restaurant someplace far far away.

If you had ten million dollars, what would you do?

I would still clock in every morning with 10 million dollars in the bank.

Finally, why are you (still) in this industry?

I simply can’t find myself doing something else.
