IABC is launching its first regional conference & it’s not in Dubai

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is bringing its annual conference to the Middle East this year.

EMENAComm19 will be held in Manama, Bahrain on 11 and 12 February. The annual conference was previously held in different European countries but this time, “We wanted to put on an event that includes as many communicators as possible, from markets such as Saudi, Bahrain and Kuwait,” says past IABC MENA Chair Alex Malouf.

Given the growth of the Gulf chapter, which now has 200 members from the region, the organization wanted to bring together communicators from all Middle East countries – not just the UAE, which is home to a majority of events and conferences.

“There are thousands of people in the industry in other markets within the Gulf and we wanted the event to truly unite and represent the region,” adds Malouf.

The two-day event will bring together over 40 speakers under the theme of “Transformational Communications”. With six tracks covering leadership and strategy; corporate social responsibility; the impact of technology; crisis response; and the latest thinking in external and internal communications, EMENAComm19 will seek to showcase best practices and innovations that are changing how corporations, agencies, and NGOs are achieving success through communications.

Keynotes will include talks by former Apple executive Cameron Craig on how “Communications Played a Leading Role in Apple’s Turnaround”, and Australia’s leading diversity specialist Tasneem Chopra on organized disruption and how to change the way we communicate inclusively. Klavs Valskov, the former head of marketing communications at GE Oil & Gas, will share lessons on how GE Oil and Gas rebranded itself to become the world’s first digital industrial company, whilst UAE-based Dawn Metcalfe, founder of HardTalk, will speak on how communicators can create a ‘stand up and speak out’ culture.

“The way we communicate has completely changed, and the role of the communicator is transforming as well,” adds Malouf. “Communicators have a valuable role to play in every organization, and EMENAComm will help drive this transformation so that the region’s communicators are both empowered to do more and are recognized as changemakers by their organizational leadership.”
