The 2015 STEP Conference, regional forum on technology, design and gaming, was a dynamic event with a range of activities to keep attendees busy. The event featured speakers like Mike Butcher, Editor of TechCrunch Europe, and Dave McClure, founder of business incubator 500 Startups, who both appear as the Top 100 most wanted tech speakers in the world.
Panels covered subjects from “The Future of Video for Brands and Media” and “How to Find and Pursue Your Passions”. While, workshops were delivered by some leading industry insights, like Phil Adrien, general manager of Blue Barracuda, whose theme was storytelling and how it has changed with technology (see our Q&A with Phil here); and Hazel Jackson of biz-group discussing gamification.
Some highlights that set STEP apart include the debut display of the $3.4 million car (the third most expensive car in the world) designed in Dubai for the latest installment of The Fast and the Furious. The day also hosted a plethora of interactive events like the Gaming Challenge.
Much of the conference was dedicated to up-and-coming businesses, with several segments aimed toward entrepreneurship and startups. The pitch competition allowed entrepreneurs and early stage startups an opportunity to catch the eye of investors. And Mentor’s Corner provided a chance for one-on-one sessions with industry experts who gave insight into business management and tips for success.
There was also room for established regional and global companies to showcase their products and services at Exhibition Square. Additionally, Startup Basecamp was a program that showcased select startups, whose progress was at the seed stage.
The night concluded with an After Party at Zero Gravity, where attendees could wind-down and continue networking.
