Starcom Mediavest Group (SMG) has recently released an infographic based on the social media activity of Dubai’s bid to host the Expo 2020. The infographic’s tweet chart shows that there were 161, 525 tweets around the Expo 2020 during the month of November, 118,803 congratulatory tweets, and that 82 percent of the tweets were made on announcement day. Moreover, it shows that Dubai gained 45 percent of twitter mentions prior to the announcement. Dubai also had ten times the number of supporters on social media for the next competing city, Izmir, clocking up 93,175 followers on Twitter, and 854,000 fans on Facebook. The Dubai Expo 2020 alone had 51,000 Twitter followers, and 740,958 mentions on Twitter in the last six months.
